We live in an old house with narrow kitchen cupboards, and not nearly enough cupboard space. In more than 20 years, I've probably spent $1000+ on stoneware dishes, including (but not limited to) Pfaltzgraff. Recently, I decided on some "fall cleaning" and de-cluttering of my kitchen. Tired of various appliances on the counter, and with no where else to store them, I looked into Corelle dishes. My mother had Corelle from my early teens on. My grandmothers each had squared, Melamine dishes.
With all of that on mind, I ordered the cheerful, retro "Happy Days" dinnerware sets (2). Fine china they're not. That said, here are the benefits of ordering some for yourself:
1. High quality, made in the U.S. [plates and bowls]; the cups are porcelain and made in China, but given you'll be putting hot liquids in them on a regular basis, this isn't a drawback as porcelain handles sudden "serious" heat better.
2. Service for 8 (2 sets), stacked, takes up about 1/4 of the cabinet space of stoneware dinnerware sets, and unlike other reviewers, I find the plates fit perfectly into our narrow cabinets from 1936.
3. Unlike stoneware, you won't have to worry about chipping and crackling of the glaze... which can lead to poisoning. Corelle dishes are know to be durable.
4. If, like me, you don't have an automatic dishwasher, these squared plates and bowls fit perfectly into a counter top drainer. They also wash up more easily than traditional stoneware dishes, and dry quickly.
5. The Happy Days pattern is fun, a bit retro, coordinates with many colors, and is cheerful. I have Tuscany-themed art in my kitchen, along with some quirky, "artsy" and eclectic accents (such as carved birds, bronze baby shoes and antique tins)... the pattern fits quite well. Especially since my kitchen is painted white, including cabinets and appliances. The dishes seem to tie everything together.
For the "freed up" storage space alone, it's worth Amazon's price. Mine arrived in perfect condition, have been washed and nestled into those narrow cabinets. Actually... one shelf of a narrow cabinet. I'm thrilled!

I am so Happy with my Corelle Dinnerware set. I had grown tired of my old Sunflower Corelle. I purchased a set of Stoneware from another company around Christmas, Knowing I have never liked "HEAVY" dishes, but did it anyway. I liked the look and updated color but I grew so tired of the weight and trying to get them to fit in my dishwasher, I missed my Corelleware...so I purchased this set and I'm so happy that I did. The heavy Stoneware got stored away and now I'm back to using the Corelle everyday. I love this stuff. My first set was bought in 1970's, the snowflake pattern, then the Sunflowers in the 90's, now this set. It's strong, and does not chip or crack easy. I actually dropped one of my plates years ago on a ceramic tile floor and it was fine, just luck....but I love this updated Square and the Happy little flowers. I will be ordering another set so I will have enough for 8. I still have my old sets, they never wear out.....

I ordered 3 sets of these and love them. The size is awesome for my family of 13. The ladies like the salad plate and us it most often. The men like a large plate and this one is perfect for their larger portions. The country design is simple enough for all. The bowls are a little smaller than expected. But they do hold just as much as my older set did. (Looks can be deceiving) The coffee cups hold 10ozs of liquid. There flatter than my stoneware was and do not take up as much space in my cabinet. I love the extra space that it gives me to store dishes.
